The arrests came after a months-long investigation by the attorney general’s office into the risks of sexual exploitation of children on Facebook and Instagram. That investigation also formed the basis of a lawsuit against Meta, filed in December, accusing the tech giant of creating a “breeding ground” for child predators. The company also said in December that it had launched technology to proactively detect and disable accounts displaying suspicious behaviors and that it formed a Child Safety Task Force. New York CNN —The first test subject for Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain chip implant startup, has developed a problem just a few weeks after it was inserted. But the company said it was able to make the implant more sensitive to increase its performance even further. About a month after the operation, Musk said Arbaugh could control a computer mouse with his brain after having the chip implanted. Like existing brain-machine interfaces, the company’s implant would collect electrical signals sent out by the brain and interpret them as actions. Before Neuralink’s brain implants hit the broader market, they’ll need broader regulatory approval.

Washington CNN —The House voted swiftly Wednesday evening to kill Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership post. In one demo video, researchers showed how they animated the Mona Lisa to recite a comedic rap by actor Anne Hathaway. Outputs from the AI model, called VASA-1, are both entertaining and a bit jarring in their realness. “We are opposed to any behavior to create misleading or harmful contents of real persons,” Microsoft researchers said in a blog post. For example, in one demo video set to a clip of someone sounding agitated, apparently while playing video games, the face speaking has furrowed brows and pursed lips.

Benarroch said Hyundai has been running a Corporate level account on X, focused on climate change ads aimed at reaching policy makers. New York CNN —Meta’s Oversight Board is set to evaluate the company’s handling of deepfake pornography amid growing concerns that artificial intelligence is fueling a rise in the creation of fake, explicit imagery as a form of harassment. “Deepfake pornography is a growing cause of gender-based harassment online and is increasingly used to target, silence and intimidate women – both on and offline,” Meta Oversight Board Co-Chair Helle Thorning-Schmidt said in a statement. The board makes recommendations to the company about how to handle certain content moderation decisions, as well as broader policy suggestions. The second case involves an AI-generated image of a nude woman being groped, which was posted to a Facebook group for AI creations. Later this year, Meta will launch new software for educators that aims to make it easier to use its VR headsets in the classroom. The tools will let teachers manage and program multiple Quest headsets at once, give them access to a range of education-related apps and provide greater oversight and control of how students are using the devices.
